    Barclaycard Dine & Dash

Dine & Dash – a brand new payment concept for restaurants that allows diners to simply 'walk out' at the end of their meals. No codes, no waiting around, just Tap. Eat. Go.

What customer problems did you set out to solve?

Diners and restaurants alike consider the delay caused by settling the bill at the end of the dinning experience a significant pain point. For diners it causes frustration and unwanted delay while for restaurants this results in both unhappy customers as well as lost revenue in the form of reduced covers. Dine & Dash was created to solve these
primary pain-point that was highlighted in our initial research with 4000+ consumers and 300+ restaurants.

What differentiates your proposition from other offerings in the market?

Even though the idea of an app based ‘pay-at-table’ solution is not new, it is currently a broken experience with a confusing and long-winded initiation process. With Dine & Dash, all the consumer needs to do is simply tap their smartphone on the small hardware device that sits on the restaurant table. With a single tap, we recognise the customer, the restaurant, the table number and their payment credentials – making the rest of the experience completely frictionless. At the end of the meal, the diner can simply get up and walk away, with their bill settled invisibly and the final receipt delivered to their phone.

How have you proven that your concept has potential for impact?

We conducted a thorough piece of research with 4,000+ consumers and 300+ restaurants, understanding their needs and common painpoints. More than 65% of the respondents identified 'the dreaded wait for the bill' as their biggest pain-point with dinning out. Moreover, our initial media demo and press announcement has seen record-breaking coverage from media across all channels and an incredibly positive response by consumers through social media.

Where do you see this proposition in 12 months time?

Barclaycard is currently in the process of productising Dine & Dash, with more than a dozen high street hospitality brands having shown interest in signing-up as early adopters. Based on our current production timelines, over the next 12 months we should have Dine & Dash live in the market.
