Consumers can access clear and simple information about satellite communications, receive and compare tailored offers from trusted suppliers. We ultimately help consumers stay connected at sea.

    What customer problems did you set out to solve?

    Satellite communications is really complicated. We set out to give clarity to consumers, getting rid of complicated terms and endless sales processes. Seashell wants to simplify the technical language, eliminating the confusion around product specifications, price and service coverage. We provide the necessary guidance through product choice, installation and post-purchase.

    What differentiates your proposition from other offerings in the market?

    As opposed to assuming a base level of understanding about satellite communications, we educate consumers and remove the complicated jargon. We match Leisure boaters to one of three simple solutions and connect them with trusted partners. Seashell is the first digital platform in this market designed around the needs of consumers, as opposed to the existing way of selling via product specifications.

    How have you proven that your concept has potential for impact?

    We’ve used hypothesis-led experimentation throughout the design process. Qualitative research gave us the opportunity to work with consumers and suppliers to co-create the proposition. We then run sets of live experiments to validate our assumptions. These included generating demand via a Facebook & Google advertising campaign, launching a microsite to educate them with useful content and trialling a fulfilment process utilising our trusted partners. To date we’ve already seen an incredible amount of demand for the service with over 700k impressions, 20k website views and over 50 sign-ups, and have received very positive feedback from consumers.

    Where do you see this proposition in 12 months time?

    We are continuing to iterate the proposition in line with our learnings, improving the digital experience and creating a full scale platform capable of operating efficiently at every stage of the customer journey. What began as a confined experiment in the US market, focusing specifically in Florida, will expand across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
